Volunteer Opportunities

The Fort Smith Museum of History offers many opportunities for personal development and satisfaction in the volunteer corps. Archives, collections care, tour leadership, soda fountain sales, gift shop sales and greeting visitors all require the services of dedicated people. We encourage each volunteer to give us two to four hours a week to keep their skills polished and to allow us to plan ahead, but training and work schedules are flexible. We are especially interested in the services of younger volunteers (ages 16 and up) who can help other children with learning activities in the Museum. Older youth can also be trained in more advanced areas.

Adopt an Artifact Program

Sorry folks, you can't actually take an artifact home with you, but the museum could really use your help in preserving Fort Smith's historical artifacts.  As of this year, the museum has been aquiring artifacts for one hundred three years.  With such a large collection, many objects need proper storage boxes to keep them protected.

Please help the Museum by making a small donation to help preserve this unique part of history.  Storage boxes are expensive, $60 and up.  Any amount you can contribute to preserving these garments will be greatly appreciated.

Send your donation to the Museum at 320 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
