The Fort Smith Museum of History is honored to host a welcome reception for Fort Smith native Angela Walton-Raji. Ms. Walton-Raji will be the keynote speaker for the history conference “Uncovering the Black History of Western Arkansas and Indian Territory” to be held on February 6, 2010 at the Clayton House.
The author, genealogist and historian has extensively researched Oklahoma Freedmen and tribal records, Arkansas U. S. Colored Troops of the Civil War, conducted oral interviews of families and elders from Arkansas along with numerous other genealogical and research pursuits. Currently the Director of Graduate School Recruitment at the University of Maryland, Ms. Walton-Raji has published several books and has received many awards for her work. The museum is privileged to welcome a scholar of such caliber as our distinguished guest.
